Martin
County Economic Development Corporation Privacy Statement
Martin
County Economic Development Corporation (Martin County EDC) operates two web
sites, (www.martincountyedc.com
and www.nctelecenter.com), for the promotion of economic development in
Martin County and to provide
services to individuals and industries at our NC TeleCenter location. Martin
County EDC supports the full disclosure of how web sites collect and use
information. We recognize the importance of protecting the privacy of all
information provided by clients of our web sites and registrants for events
and services.
Automatic
Data Collection (Cookies)
Our web sites do not use
“cookies” (data stored on the user’s hard drive containing information
about the user) to automatically collect information from users.
Information
Collection and Use
Martin County EDC collects information from individuals who request the use
of our facilities at the Northeast Technology & Business Center for
meetings, conferences, training, and office space. Information is collected
via an “e-scheduling form” used to request the reservation of certain
accommodations and/or services. During registration, users are required to
give their contact information (such as name, organizational name, e-mail
address, mailing address, and phone number). The registration form is sent
to NETBC’s Director of Operations via an unsecured e-mail.
For
internal purposes, we use this information to communicate with users and to
provide requested accommodations and/or services. We also post meetings,
training seminars, etc. to our NC TeleCenter web site’s Meetings/Event
page. The Martin County EDC deals with confidential information on a regular
basis. If you request, we will post the use of our facilities under general
terms (e.g. Private Corporate Meeting).
We
use aggregate demographic information about our clients to improve our
service and marketing, and for reporting purposes to the Rural Internet
Access Authority and the Martin County EDC Board of Directors. Further,
aggregate demographic information might be given to the Martin County Board
of Commissioners, news agencies, and others requesting such information.
Nonetheless,
we will never disclose “private” meetings, unless under a court order or
a subpoena, or other legal obligation. Information may be disclosed if its
use is necessary to identify, contact, or bring legal action against someone
who may be causing injury to or interference with our rights or property.
We
also collect credit card information and/or billing address information for
invoice purposes that require payment (e.g. rental of equipment, office
space, etc.). This information is collected through a direct telephone call
for billing purposes only, and is not otherwise shared. We will never
request this information through our web site or through an e-mail.
E-mail
Newsletters and Updates
From time to time we might notify previous users of our facilities of
updates to our services and other general information through an e-mail, or
direct mail newsletter. Recipients of our newsletters can unsubscribe using
the instructions listed at the end of the e-mail or direct mail newsletter.
Surveys
and Contests
On occasion, we invite users to provide information via surveys or contests
(e.g. What the NC TeleCenter means to me, Your satisfaction of services
provided, etc.). Participation in surveys or contests is voluntary and the
user therefore has a choice whether to disclose requested contact
information and demographic information. Contact information collected in
connection with surveys and contests is used to notify the winners and award
prizes, to monitor or improve the use and satisfaction of the facilities, as
well as other uses previously set forth in this policy. Information may be
shared with news agencies or for general reporting procedures.
Furthermore,
we might redirect a survey or contest to a third party for collecting
information and opinions of users. However, this will never be done for
marketing purposes and will only be done to collect aggregate information.
Before posting such a survey or contest, we will notify you that you are
leaving our site. Always refer to the third party’s site for privacy
practices and policy information.
Communications
with and from Us
We have features where users can submit information to us (such as e-mails
or feedback forms). Requests for service, support, or information may be
forwarded as needed in order to respond to a specific request. We may retain
e-mails and other information sent to us for our internal administrative
purposes, and to help us to serve our clients better. It is our policy to
never sell or otherwise make available client information, regardless of its
nature.
Additionally,
we might communicate with a client to provide requested services via e-mail,
telephone, or direct mail. For confidential information, the client will
choose how to receive these communications.
With
Whom Your Information is Shared
In addition to the conditions outlined herein, our web site(s) might be used
to register for classes, training seminars, courses or other educational and
non-educational offerings through a
university, community college, or private firm. Information collected in
connection with any of these types of offerings will be shared with the
sponsor of the particular seminar(s), etc. We do not collect for or share
credit card information with such third parties and you will be directed how
to contact the particular organization for payment, if required.
We
do not provide targeted
lists of names and offline and online contact information for marketing
purposes to third parties. Other than as set forth above, we do
not share personally identifiable information with other companies
or organizations. We may share aggregate information, which is not
personally identifiable, with others. This information may include usage and
demographic data, but it will not include personal information.
Security
We use reasonable precautions to protect our clients’ personal information
and to store it securely. Access to all of our clients' information, not
just the sensitive information mentioned above, is restricted. Only
employees who need the information to perform a specific job are granted
access to personally identifiable information.
Links
Our web sites contain links to other sites. Martin County EDC is not
responsible for the privacy practices or content of such other sites. We
encourage our clients to be aware when they leave our site and to read the
privacy statements of each web site to which we may link that may collect
personally identifiable information.
Notification
and Changes
Any changes to our privacy policy will be posted on this page so that our
clients will be aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and
under which circumstances, if any, we disclose it. Users should check this
policy frequently to keep abreast of any changes. Policy changes will be
made only to strengthen our current policy and no changes will be made that
allows us to disclose private information.
