WILLIAMSTON-
The fair came to town on Tuesday, April 4 -- the job fair
that is, bringing together a plethora of companies, employers, and job
opportunities in record numbers at the Northeast Technology & Business
Center.
“We have had a
tremendous turnout,” said Betty Williams, director of the Martin County
ESC and the head organizer of the job fair. With a total of 26 employers
and over 250 applicants in attendance, the project was a huge success.
Some of the employers present included the Martin County Community
Action, Martin Community College, Perdue, the Syfan Corporation, and the
U. S. Army. The second annual Job Link job fair was designed to match up
various applicants with employers needing their labor and sought to
bring more job opportunities to Martin County.
“It’s a great
opportunity for a lot of the employers in Martin County to reach out
into the community and get a feel for what its citizens are looking for
in terms of career options,” remarked Barbara Daly, the Chair of
Industrial Health Technologies at Martin Community College. All of the
employers agreed that the fair was a commendable effort to help bolster
support for a prosperous and abundant career atmosphere within the
community, she said.
“It’s a great thing
for the community as a whole to be able to come together and try to get
jobs for people,” said Anthony Brinkley, one of the local job applicants
attending the fair. Brinkley said that he and his friends attended a
larger job fair in Nash County on Tuesday and remarked that they were
glad to see their own county emulating its larger neighbors.
